Japan’s Abe maintains close ties to US while warming to China


On Wednesday, December 12 Dr. Kent Calder, Director of the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies and Vice Dean of Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies | SAIS, gave a lecture at the International House of Japan. Held bi-annually, the event is sponsored by the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC), a group of eleven prominent US universities, administered by Stanford University, for advanced Japanese language study.

The piece, titled “Japan’s Abe maintains close ties to US while warming to China,” discusses the relationships that Prime Minister Abe has managed to cultivate with President Xi and President Trump.
