NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration – Public diplomacy

On November 3, Mr. Andrew Masciola and Ms. Peyton Blackstock (Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies | SAIS 2020) of NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration spoke to Reischauer Center Senior Fellow Dr. William Brooks’ class on public diplomacy.

Mr. Masciola outlined NASA’s history of international cooperation, focusing on the agency’s partnership with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) across science; human exploration and operations such as the International Space Station (ISS); aeronautics; and public diplomacy. Ms. Blackstock detailed U.S.-Japan cooperation and diplomacy involved in the Artemis Program, a U.S.-led international cooperative effort to established as sustained human presence on the Moon. In particular, Ms. Blackstock highlighted Japanese contributions to the upcoming Artemis 1 Launch, US-Japan strategic engagement on the project, and upcoming developments such as the Lunar Gateway.
