The Sakura Matsuri – Japanese Street Festival

On April 9th, the Reischauer Center team attended the Sakura Matsuri – Japanese Street Festival in Washington, DC and represented the Center to celebrate the cherry blossoms and the strong ties of the U.S.-Japan relationship. The team shared games, trivia, and information about the center and their work with participants.

Later that evening, the Reischauer Center hosted an event and reception with the National Japan Bowl for high school and undergraduate students who took part in the event led by the Japan-America Society of Washington DC (JASWDC). Reischauer Center Director Dr. Kent Calder shared opening remarks with the students encouraging them to serve as bridges between the U.S. and Japan in their future studies and work, building on former Ambassador Edwin O. Reischauer’s advice and model of the US-Japan relationship.
