Professor William Brooks quoted in the Asia Times

Professor William Brooks of the Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies | SAIS was quoted in the Asia Times regarding the nature of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s diplomatic offensive. He expects that Kim may make small concessions to keep the US at bay, but will not denuclearize unless the US agrees to withdraw from South Korea. He also observes that Kim has dismissed the possibility of Japan’s participation in the North Korean denuclearization process.

Addtionally, with regard to the US “change through engagement” policy toward China, the US should focus on understanding the Chinese systems rather than aiming to change it.
